2016 California State Fair - Floral Donations Needed

Dear CalFlowers Member:

We are pleased to report that the California State Floral Association (CSFA) has been invited to once again participate at this year’s California State Fair.  Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success with two exhibits featuring a California Grown Floral Shop and a Hydroponic Flower Greenhouse on The Farm within the fair grounds.

This year’s “Flower Shop” will feature only California GrownFlowers and is located in County Building B near the Farm atCal Expo.  The shop will have designers showcasing California flowers 12 hours a day for the entire 17 days of the Fair.  The Fair has named Sunday, July 17th “California Flower Day”

Students and professional floral designers will compete in qualifying competitions during the day.  In partnership with California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom, Flower Day will also feature a children’s floral design showcase.  In the evening, three local chefs will each create a dish highlighting an edible flower.

We are sincerely grateful to have CalFlowers support of our projects at the 2016 California State Fair.

CSFA has been asked to provide flowers and supplies for the Floral Shop throughout the fair and on Flower Day, July 17th.  We would truly appreciate your sponsorship of beautiful California flowers.

Flora Fresh Inc. will be the receiver site and will be contacting you for ship dates and special needs.  If you would like more information on how to donate and ship, please contact Marty Espe @ 916-927-9767 or by email at [email protected].

Here is the schedule for "Flower Day" July 17th:

11 AM - Student Floral Design Competition: Student designers will compete in a Surprise Package & Designer’s Theme Composition using CA GROWN flowers.

1 PM – Children’s Design Showcase: Elementary school children will design and create their own CA GROWN floral bouquets.

3 PM - Top Ten Floral Design Competition:  Skilled floral designers will compete in a Surprise Package & Designer’s Theme Composition using CA GROWN flowers.

6 PM - Farm to Fork Edible Flower Cooking Demonstration & Flower to Vase Tablescape Competition:  Three local chefs will prepare dishes highlighting edible flowers and floral designers will create tablescapes incorporating each chef’s edible flower.

Your consideration and support would be greatly appreciated. Come visit us at the 2016 California State Fair in the CA Grown Floral Shop.  Together we can show attendees what beautiful flowers California has to offer.

Sincerely,

Ann Quinn
Executive Vice President
California State Floral Association

CalFlowers Attends 2016 AIFD Symposium “Inspiration”

CalFlowers members played a huge part at the 2016 AIFD Symposium in Orange County, California.  With Symposium being held in California this year CalFlowers members went above and beyond with their donations to ensure attendees were surrounded by beautiful California flowers and greens to see and enjoy.

With over 1,000 attendees throughout the week, hands on classes, many on stage presentations and the largest showing of Partner’s table exhibits in recent years, there was a heightened excitement at the Partner’s Expo ribbon cutting ceremony on the morning of July 4th.

New this year, Partner’s Expo was open for two days to provide exhibitors more exposure.  CalFlowers did an on-stage presentation with the help of AIFD designer Derrick Vasquez during the Partner’s Expo.  Derrick did demonstrations using all California flowers and greens with a Disney princess theme to go along with the décor from our Partner’s table.

CalFlowers was a Diamond Elite Partner again this year and sponsored “Flowers with Soul II” featuring the floral artistry of one of Korea’s leading designers Julia Kim AIFD, CFD.

Julia demonstrated the beautiful and artistic compositions that the sphere and quadrangle can create using only California flowers and greens.

Thank you to all of our CalFlowers members who donated flowers and greens for AIFD this year.  Our California presence was definitely felt throughout the week.

CalFlowers Attends IFE in Chicago

CalFlowers was an exhibitor in the
“California Pavilion” at the International Floral Expo (IFE) show in Chicago June 20 – 21. This year, Dramm & Echter as well as Mellano & Company were there alongside CalFlowers in the booth to show attendees what California has to offer.

For 2016, IFE was held in conjunction with FMI Connect, United Fresh and the Global Cold Chain Expo.  IFE is considered one of the leading industry trade events that always bring in the highest-volume buyers from the floral industry.  This three day annual event is where the floral industry gathers to discover new products, new suppliers and many networking opportunities.

The show was well attended by top quality buyers and sellers.   One badge got you in to all four shows.  There were 225 exhibitors in the floral section alone and over 14,000 attendees combined for the four trade events.United Fresh and the Global Cold Chain Expo.  IFE is considered one of the leading industry trade events that always bring in the highest-volume buyers from the floral industry.  This three day annual event is where the floral industry gathers to discover new products, new suppliers and many networking opportunities.

The show will once again make it back to Chicago June 13 – 15, 2017 at the McCormick Center.

Thank you to all of the CalFlowers members who sent floral donations for our booth.
