2017 Fun 'N Sun Registration
Don’t miss Fun ‘N Sun 2017 in Carlsbad, California, celebrating our 75th year! With four days devoted to California flowers and the floral industry, it is the largest all-California floral display and floral exhibit available in one location.
Grower Tours • Industry Educational Sessions • Golf Tournament
Visit some of California’s leading flower farms, make new friends, meet old friends, and learn about merging trends in the industry.

Memorial Day Flowers 2017
For the third year in a row, CalFlowers is honored to be a sponsor of Memorial Day Flowers. In 2017, we were able to increase our sponsorship and support to once again have a presence at Arlington National Cemetery, outside of Washington, D.C. Flowers from California, South America, and Africa were placed by more than 800 volunteers on approximately 160,000 grave sites. CalFlowers also provided support to these other National Cemeteries:
- Arizona National Cemetery (Phoenix, AZ)
- Sacramento Valley National Cemetery (Dixon, CA)
- Fort Snelling National Cemetery (Minneapolis, MN)
- Houston National Cemetery (Houston, TX)
- Miramar National Cemetery (San Diego, CA)
- San Francisco National Cemetery (Presidio of San Francisco, CA)
CalFlowers is especially grateful to the 200 volunteers and Scouts who made it possible for us to distribute nearly 7,000 stems at the San Francisco National Cemetery and a stem for each of the more than 14,000 gravesites at Miramar National Cemetery. We would also like to thank Board member Ben Dobbe, his wife Jen, and their daughters Emily and Lydia for spending their Memorial Day weekend at Arlington National Cemetery as our official representatives.

According to Ben Dobbe, about his involvement at Arlington National Cemetery, he said: "It was one of the most moving experiences of my life, and I can't imagine spending future Memorial Days anywhere but at a national cemetery giving tribute to our fallen soldiers - as a flower grower, I couldn't be more proud that our products are such an important part of this annual tribute."

Fun 'N Sun FREE Registration Winner!
In April and May this year, CalFlowers ran a sweepstakes promotion for members to add their own Lines of Business into the online Members Only area of the CalFlowers website: www.cafgs.org.
We are happy that we had over 280 member-companies add their Lines of Business to the database. The winner of the sweepstakes, selected at random, is Rokay Floral in Plymouth, Michigan. They have won a free Fun ’N Sun registration.

2017 Membership Dues Have Been Emailed
The grace period for paying your 2017 membership dues is almost over. Make payment by July 1 to retain your membership. Otherwise, your membership and benefits, including discounted transportation rates from FedEx, GSO, and OnTrac, will be cancelled.
We have been emailing your membership dues renewal notifications since April 1. Email notifications (sent from [email protected]) will provide you with a link to pay your dues within that email. (no login required). If you have not received your dues renewal emails, please contact Linda Long, CalFlowers Membership Manager, at (831) 479-4912 or via email at [email protected].
(Note: To ensure that you receive the dues renewal notification emails from CalFlowers, you should add the email address "[email protected]" to your list of Safe Senders. If you are not sure how to do this, please contact your company's technical support team.)
Featured New Member of the Month
Hammelmans Floral, LLC
Hammelmans Floral, located in the small German community of Mount Angel in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, has been in the flower business since 1989. While Hammelmans is best known for its 50+ assortment of dried and preserved flowers, the farm also raises fresh peonies, hydrangeas, and other specialty items for fresh cut sales.
Hammelmans Floral recently transitioned to the second generation, with Bruce and Claire taking over operations at the beginning of 2017. Hammelmans feels fortunate to have great employees who take pride in their jobs, from the office (MJ) to the warehouse (Lupe) and field production (Jesus) and find the transition is going smoothly. Bruce and Claire are excited about the flower industry and eagerly look forward to the future.

Transportation
- Armellini has just announced that beginning July 1, 2017, they will begin offering services to Washington and Oregon. Armellini strategically acquired Direct Trucking, which will allow them a quick and smooth entrance into that area and begin offering quality products and services to local customers. For more information on this new development, please call Armellini’s Customer Center Department at (888) 235-4723.
- Big news from our newest shipping partner, Golden State Overnight. GSO has expanded D2D operations from four to seven states. As of May 15, GSO is now servicing Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. This new expansion now brings GSO’s service area to CA, NV, AZ, NM, OR, WA, and ID. Our program will now include these new states and prices will remain the same. The only change is in terms of delivery times. OR, WA, and ID will be classified as 2-day service (depending on origination) so shippers will need to pack boxes accordingly. - As you may have seen, the CalFlowers / FedEx International Priority Distribution (IPD) program is progressing nicely. This program is tailored to our wholesale / ecommerce members and allows fast 3-day airport-to-door import of product from Colombia and Ecuador. Our program offers excellent rates and a special two-box minimum. Other special waivers apply, and members just need to contact Chris Johnson at (760) 533-5580 or [email protected] to inquire.
