CalFlowers Fun ’N Sun Attendees Get Up Close with Central Coast Growers

Floral designers, retailers, wholesalers, transportation providers and business partners attend the bi-annual CalFlowers Fun ’N Sun event (https://www.cafgs.org/fun-n-sun-2015) for many reasons - to network with potential business partners, meet new suppliers, learn about new floral trends and products and mix and mingle with the industry’s movers and shakers.

But many attendees will tell you that the best part of the three-day event is the growers tour. Despite rising early to board the bus, attendees love getting to meet the growers and their staffs, shuffling through greenhouses and fields and seeing them miracle of flowers as they being the journey to the vase or bouquet.

This year, the growers tour offers a wide variety of product and terrain. California Pajarosa will delight attendees with its many varieties of roses - from garden roses to spray roses to David Austin. This operation started in 1979 and is nestled against the Santa Cruz Mountains and uses ecologically advanced farming practices.

CallaCo offers attendees a look at the elegant calla lilies - from very tall to small and in a wide range of striking hues. Attendees will learn how these beauties are grown and harvested. The basis of CallaCo was started in 1910 and the company is now the largest calla grower in the country.

At CamFlor, established in 1980, attendees will experience one of the broader ranges of #CAGrown product. If you see it in a bouquet or arrangement, likely CamFlor provides it!

During the tour of the Green Valley Floral farm, visitors will see hydroponic roses, David Austin roses, gerberas and lilies in an amazing rainbow of colors. The final stop on the tour is Kitayama Brothers, which offers stunning views of Monterey Bay and has been growing and shipping #CAGrown flowers since 1948. They nurture more than 20 different kinds of flowers, including oriental and Asiatic lilies, lisianthus, gerbera daisies, snapdragons, mini callas, iris, gardenias and stephanotis. Attendees will learn about the history of the family and its innovations as the business has evolved.
