2014 Recap: CalFlowers Continues Growth to Serve Its Members

As we all know, about 80 percent of cut flower production occurs in California, creating an economic engine with an impact greater than $1B dollars just in the state of California (Floriculture Crops 2013 Summary - pg. 7).

To support floral industry growth, California Association of Flower Growers and Shippers (CalFlowers), has been working hard on your behalf and is even expanding its role and mission for its grower and shipper members.

With that in mind, the group achieved a number of big goals in 2014. These include:

  • Rebranding the organization to CalFlowers to reflect an increasingly globalized floral economy and a larger role in the worldwide floral industry.
  • Continuing to expand its expertise and services in transportation.
  • Increasing its exhibit space at the World Floral Expo[A1] by almost 10-fold  from 2013 to 2014. CalFlowers, in collaboration with CCFC and the California State Floral Association, will host a large pavilion with its members and others at the 2015 event, March 11-13, Los Angeles.
  • Sponsoring the 2014 Wholesale Florist and Florist Supplier Association annual meeting, where it helped form a collaborative group to promote floral consumption, including the international Women’s Day holiday March 8, 2015.
  • Planning for hosting the biennial Fun ‘n Sun[A2]  event, the largest California floral industry trade show in the country, set for July 29-August 1, Monterey, Calif.
  • Adding a number of new members and forming relationships with growers and shippers outside of the U.S. to benefit its members.
