 Flower Of The Month:

Chrysanthemum

The word, “chrysanthemum,” comes from the Greek prefix “chrys-” meaning golden and “-anthemion,” meaning flower. It’s original colors were golden, though mums now come in many colors.

CHRYSANTHEMUM
SYMBOLISM

A native to Asia with a history that dates back to 15th century B.C., chrysanthemum symbolism often originates from its original birthplace.

In Japan, there’s even a “Festival of Happiness” to celebrate this flower each year.

  • Both the Chinese and Japanese consider chrysanthemums a powerful emblem of youth. The Chinese also believe that it prevents gray hair.
  • A symbol of the sun, the Japanese consider the orderly unfolding of the chrysanthemum’s petals to represent perfection.
  • Confucius once suggested chrysanthemums be used as an object of meditation.
  • It’s said that a single petal placed in the bottom of a glass of wine enhances longevity.

CHRYSANTHEMUM
MEANING

  • A red chrysanthemum means “I love you.”
  • A white chrysanthemum means innocence, purity, and pure love.
  • A yellow chrysanthemum means slighted love.

GARDENING WITH MUMS

Chrysanthemums are perennials. After they finish blooming in the fall, mulch them with several inches of straw to protect them from the cold.

The Tale Behind Flowers

There is a lot of research done behind flowers, but not everyone knows it.  Therefore, Ball is eager to show the world.  In the recently launched video, the story behind the flower research and development is being told.

Everyone knows flowers, everyone loves the emotions they transmit and how they are used to express happiness, gratitude, love and excitement.  Flowers help tell stories, they reduce stress levels, they awake most of the senses: sight, smell and touch and they even lift peoples' moods.  Click here to read the full press release.

For shippers needing supplies, please note that for the Thanksgiving Holiday period, customers will need to order by November 18 to receive supplies prior to Thanksgiving.  No supplies will be delivered Monday or Tuesday, Nov. 25 & 26.  For the Christmas Holiday, shippers will need to order supplies by December 6 to ensure delivery prior to the holiday. No supplies will ship from December 12 - 23.

Please also note that due to the yearly Holiday shipping season, FedEx Money Back Guarantee (MBG) will be suspended from November 3 to December 24, 2019.  After this time, the Money Back Guarantee will be reinstated to all FedEx customers.

And in other Money Back Guarantee news, new guidelines have been issued by FedEx regarding the MBG.  Beginning immediately, shippers requesting a MBG on a shipment must make the request no longer than 15 days from the invoice date.  Requests after the 15-day time period will not be honored.

We would also like to remind members to stay current with their FedEx Express shipping invoices. FedEx payment terms are 15 days.  All members shipping on FedEx Express are expected to stay within the FedEx payment terms.  To obtain your invoice details and payment options, please contact FedEx Customer Service.

For members who wish to move PALLETIZED freight on FedEx, CalFlowers can help direct you to customized solutions and pricing.  FedEx Freight is an excellent option when your shipments call for pallets. Interested members should contact Chris Johnson at [email protected] for more information.
